The Return: this year’s last post…

The Return: this year’s last article

Following a rather long period of inactivity as far as this blog and its creator are concerned, we finally found the time and courage to return to a regular schedule. Thus, after having translated and edited more than 130.000 words in-between, and upon reading countless articles related to translation and other language issues, Mr. Zikos has returned to action!

This week, I shall simply quote a selection of articles which I read on the internet and which will hopefully be of much interest and usefulness to you, dear reader, just like they have been to me – both as translator and as an ordinary reader who is generally interested in languages.

Hopefully, next week I will have completed my latest (original) article on Samuel P. Huntington and his renowned and largely controversial work on The Clash of Civilisations and the Remaking of World Order – be sure to check back soon, I guarantee that the article is more relevant and timely than ever!

I would like to thank you all for reading this blog so far and for trusting me with your projects. I wish you all a happy new year and definitely hope that your Christmas time will be shrouded in love, good company and dreamy plans for the years to come!

So… here we go – here we go yeah!

The writer prioritises the 12 everyday phrases that he/she considers to be the most essential for anyone who would like to travel abroad or who is just interested in surprising his interlocutors and being polite and ready for action…

So many of you would wonder what makes a good proofreader and even what proofreading is, after all… Well, check out this article and you will find an answer to both (and probably more) your questions…

The title is self-explanatory: helpful tips for everyone who works in the field of translation, e.g. There are no real secrets to success, but start by working hard and by making smart decisions – Take feedback for what it is: a valuable gift – Translators: read, read, read. There really is no substitute, etc.

And finally, two more articles on how to write an ideal translator’s CV, so as to improve your chances of landing more jobs and to look more professional, confident and trustworthy.
